Best CS2 Launch Options in 2026 for FPS, Performance and Low Latency

Launch options are startup arguments entered through Steam. Which arguments CS2 recognises, and whether they help, depends on the game and its current implementation. A command copied from a CS:GO guide is not automatically useful in CS2.

Use the in-game menus for settings they already expose. Before changing a launch option, identify the problem you want to solve and how you will measure the result.

1. Open your Steam Library, right-click Counter-Strike 2 and choose Properties.

2. In the General tab, find Launch Options. Save a copy of any existing text so the change can be reversed.

3. For a clean comparison, clear the field and relaunch. If testing a specifically documented option, add only that option and compare the same scene.

4. Remove an option if it has no measurable benefit or causes problems.

Steam documents the launch-options interface, but its legacy GoldSrc/Source option list is not evidence that each flag works or improves Source 2 performance.

There is no universally best launch string established by this guide. Start by comparing the game with an empty launch-options field, keeping your other settings unchanged.

The previous recommendation to copy -novid -high -nojoy -freq 144 as a universally safe bundle has been withdrawn. This correction did not test those flags against the current CS2 executable. In particular, Microsoft’s scheduling documentation warns that high-priority scheduling requires care because other threads can lose processor time.

Confirm your actual monitor refresh rate in Windows and the game’s display settings. Microsoft’s display-refresh instructions explains where Windows reports it. A launch flag should not substitute for checking the active display mode.

Avoid long bundles whose individual purposes and current support you cannot verify. This includes copying legacy renderer, tick-rate or thread-count flags simply because a CS:GO guide once listed them.

The previous table made categorical claims that some flags did nothing or caused crashes without a current-build test. Those claims have been removed. Test only a justified change and retain a reversible baseline; do not treat the absence of a recommendation as proof that a command is nonfunctional.

A startup argument is not a guaranteed FPS or latency improvement. Results depend on the bottleneck, game implementation, hardware and other settings. Measure repeated runs in the same scene rather than judging by a single peak FPS number.

No universal bundle is established here. Compare an empty field with a single justified option and measure the result under the same conditions.

Do old tick-rate or thread flags work?
